Moving to the Newberg-Dundee area in 1980 was one of the best decisions I ever made. This welcoming, forward-thinking community quickly became my home and the foundation of a fulfilling career. Over 38 years with the Chehalem Park and Recreation District, I served in multiple roles, each deepening my commitment to enriching our community spaces.

For the first decade, I was Supervisor of the Chehalem Aquatic Center, where I taught countless children and adults to swim, coached young athletes,  maintained the building, and built a strong, professional staff. (I still cherish the memories of our water shows during the Old Fashioned Festival!)

My degree in Recreation Administration led me to the role of Park Supervisor, where I helped guide the district through a period of continual growth. With a limited budget—a challenge we continue to face—I sought creative solutions. I secured grants, and worked alongside dedicated community members: contractors who donated infrastructure work, families who helped build playgrounds, and service clubs that funded and installed park amenities.

Since retiring in 2018, I’ve traveled, cared for my parents, and explored new opportunities, but my passion for our parks and community never faded. I have continued my service as a Chehalem Park and Recreation District board member, where I’ve worked to support staff, ensure fiscally responsible decisions, and maintain and enhance our parks and facilities. I’m asking for your vote to continue this service, keep our budget sound, and plan for a vibrant future for Newberg-Dundee. Together, we can continue making our community a place we’re proud to call home.
